
The SKYCITY Waikato Women have recorded their second ever victory over Auckland in week 4 of the Farah Palmer Cup.
The visitors opened the scoring with a converted try but Waikato bounced back with three tries of their own. The first try coming from lock Karli Faneva as she crash over to score. Chelsea Alley added the extras and it was 7 all.
The second try came from replacement Danielle Paenga to put Waikato in front. Alley was unsuccessful with the conversion and the home team lead 12-7.
Waikato had their third try when prop Awhina Tangen-Wainoho smashed her way through the Auckland defence to score. Alley this time was successful with the conversion and Waikato pushed their lead to 12 points as they lead 19-7.
There would be no change to the score and the SKYCITY Waikato Women had a 19-7 lead over the visitors Auckland at the break.
In the second half Auckland scored a converted try early to cut into Waikato’s lead. But Waikato were swift to strike back, as an intercept leading to Donna Fermanis scoring the bonus point try for the home team. Alley added the extras and Waikato had some breathing room over Auckland as they led 26-14.
Waikato finished the game strong, scoring a further three tries through Ariana Bayler, Chelsea Alley and Calista Wihone. Wihone scoring right on full time helping the SKYCITY Hamilton Waikato Women to back to back wins in recent seasons over Auckland with a 45-14 win in the Farah Palmer Cup.
