Waikato Goes Down to Taranaki in 2nd Preseason

Waikato played Taranaki in the second pre-season game for 2010 in Hawera this afternoon. Through constant pressure in the forwards, Steven Setephano broke through to score against Taranaki in the first half of the game, with the try being converted by Brumbies’ import, Christian Lealiifano. Taranaki came back with a runaway try, evening up the score with both teams walking off the field with a seven all draw. Half time score: 7-7 Taranaki came back in the second half scoring 28 points to win 28-17 with a try from Waikato legend, Dwayne Sweeney, with Trent Renata converting the try along with a penalty. - Toby Smith (Hamilton Old Boys)

Waikato will play Japanese based team, Toshiba in a closed game this Wednesday afternoon at Waikato Stadium before their first ITM Cup season game against local rivals Bay of Plenty, July 31st at Waikato Stadium, 6.35pm.
