Waikato Beats Canterbury

10th August 2011 04:20PM

FULL TIME and Waikato have secured a bonus point win, coming away as 27-13.

All Blacks centre Richard Kahui, returning from a hamstring, got on the try-scoring sheet as Waikato deservedly disposed of defending ITM Cup champion Canterbury, 27-13, in their Premiership match at Christchurch's Rugby Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Waikato had the try bonus point after 25 minutes when Kahui crossed over after a thrilling 75m counter-attack and the Mooloos led at the break, 24-10, after an entertaining first half, but the second spell produced only a penalty apiece and deteriorated so much that the final whistle came as a relief to the crowd of 3500.

Waikato's win enabled it to leap-frog Canterbury into third place on the Premiership table as the red-and-blaks slumped to their third win from four games in the top tier.
