Waikato set the bar with their first win of the 2009 Air New Zealand Cup season against Manawatu at Waikato Stadium.
In the first half there were two tries from two loose forwards; captain Liam Messam and number eight Sione Lauaki .
The second half saw Sam Christie score his first Waikato try followed by a try from full back Sosene Anesi.
With a conversion and two penalties from Callum Bruce Waikato firmly secured their home win with an added bonus point.
