Steven Setephano says he feels reinvigorated as he contemplates a return to national championship rugby with Waikato after three years in Otago.
Setephano, who moved back north to Hamilton last week, expects to play some club rugby soon and is excited about Waikato's prospects in this year's ITM Cup.
The 1.92m, 107kg loose forward has just come off a Super 14 season with the Highlanders and signed a new contract with Waikato after he and his partner decided it was time to move back north closer to their Rotorua families.
He played eight matches for Waikato in 2005 and 2006 before moving south in a bid to get more regular starts and has been the regular starting No8 for Otago since.
But Setephano is enthusiastic about the prospect of returning to play for a Waikato team with more realistic chances of success at national level than Otago.
"During my time down south we didn't really have too much success in terms of the provincial competition," he said.
"The Otago squad did struggle and I'm looking forward to just getting back into the environment here, being able to work with the coaches – Chris Gibbes and Scott McLeod – and just being part of a proud union like Waikato.
