• Waikato won back the Stan Thomas Shield. Stan Thomas was an excellent Waikato fullback from their first decade.
• Dwayne Sweeney scored his second try against Auckland - both times on Eden Park.
• Sosene Anesi scored his 30th try - thus 150 points for Waikato. Just 17 players have more tries for Waikato. This was his first try against Auckland. He now has tries against 11 different ITM opponents but has yet to cross Bay of Plenty and Tasman try lines.
