Christian Lealiifano is feeling right at home in Hamilton.

If Waikato's latest rugby import, who arrived here from Australia last Sunday, had his way he would have been in club action today but first he has to get a medical clearance.

The Auckland-born Brumbies five-eighth, 22, has one of his best friends - Jack Lam - in the Waikato squad, he has family here and he spent some time on holiday here last year watching Waikato play and meeting the players.

Even the New Zealand winter weather has not put him off.

"I'm really enjoying it. The weather's not dissimilar to Canberra at the moment - it's drier over there but it's cold," Lealiifano, who recently knocked back an attractive offer from the new Melbourne Rebels to re-sign with the Brumbies for two more seasons, said yesterday.

He has come here to play in the ITM Cup for Waikato to further develop his game after missing the second half of the Super 14 with the Brumbies due to a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
