"Tasman was a battle last week but we were happy that we walked away with the four points. Northland always plays well at home so it is a big game for us. They are a tough physical side, who love to attack. Waikato-Northland games have been close contests over the past couple of seasons. The boys are looking forward to the challenge", said Gibbes.
"We have been working on finishing the opportunities we're creating within the oppositions 22 and the boys have worked hard on getting a couple of areas around our line out & kick off tidied up", commented Gibbes.
In the loose forwards this week, Dominiko Waqaniburotu has stepped into the number 6 jersey with Liam Messam's joining the NZ 7s team.
In backline, Trent Renata steps into the full back jersey with Sosene Anesi moving onto the right wing. We also welcome back Jackson Willison into the squad who returns after sustaining a hamstring injury during the first game of the season.
Waikato takes on Northland in week ten of the ITM Cup at Toll Stadium in Whangarei on Saturday 2nd October. Kickoff is 2.35pm.
