Mooloo's Show Their Support for Rainbow Place

4th October 2010 05:07PM

Waikato takes on Otago, this Friday the 8th of October at

Waikato Stadium at 7.35pm and when our Mooloo men run out they will be wearing Rainbow coloured socks in support of their charity Rainbow Place.

Waikato player Stephen Donald, the team’s charity spokesman, came to team management with the original idea and Kukri’s General Manager Mark McConnell came on board with the socks.

“Rainbow Place is a great facility and service provided by Penny and her awesome team. The Waikato team do what they can to support Rainbow Place and the socks concept is just another way that team can help with public awareness and support of Rainbow Place.” commented Stephen.

“We wanted to be able to support Rainbow Place charity in the small way we can as they do a great job and it’s great WRU have teamed up with a charity that makes a real difference in children’s lives’ in the Waikato region”, remarked Mark

Rainbow Place Manager and Children’s Nurse Penny Parson explained that Rainbow Place is a service for children and young people who have to deal with the ‘tough stuff’ around serious illness and bereavement.

“The rainbow has always been a symbol of ‘hope and comfort’ for people. Our Kaumatua, Koroneihana Cooper, gave us the words “Uenuku Ki Te Rangi” (the comforter of all people) to sit under our rainbow”.

“The support from the WRU is really special for the Rainbow Place team and the families we support. We are thrilled with the ‘rainbow socks’ idea suggested by the rugby boys, for the game against Otago, to help raise public awareness of our service”, said Penny.

Rainbow Place will have collection buckets at the game, along with face painting in the Kidszone area.
