Kids Focus for Otago Game

11th August 2011 01:18PM

The Waikato Rugby Union this season has been making rugby affordable for families, with a focus on getting children to the game.

This week's match on Sunday is focusing on Junior Rugby, with all registered players being a part of the junior march-past. The junior march-past is a celebration of junior rugby in the Waikato, where the teams get to experience Waikato Stadium firsthand by walking around the stadium while being cheered on by the crowd. This year we have 3,652 children from 32 clubs involved. The teams will then take their seats in the stand (for free) and show their support for the Waikato Team as they take on Otago.

This game will also feature the first winners of the Mooloo Class Competition where schools and classes from around the Waikato region submit a video or photos of the pupils dressed in red, yellow and black while singing the Mooloo Song. The winner for this week is Puahue School from Te Awamutu, who will receive free tickets for their pupils to attend the match, with 10 lucky pupils forming the guard of honour as the players run out onto the field.

The Waikato Rugby Union is proud to support junior rugby, and is keen to get more children involved with watching the game live and inspire those who don't already play, to take up rugby.

Waikato Rugby Union's Marketing Manager Paul Shattock said "we are providing parents with amazing value for money to take their children to the rugby. Tickets are only $6.50, and if they sit in KidsZone then they can get a whole bunch of goodies. Last week we had an amazing pack including Pop'n'Good Popcorn, Mother Earth Fruit bars and Nuts, free pass to Hamilton Zoo, buy one get one free Dominos Pizza's, a free kid's haircut with every adults haircut at 5 Cross Roads Barbers, along with a free kid's meal at LoneStar Café".

There are only three home games left for the season, so parents need to make sure they buy tickets now so kids don't miss out on an amazing experience and incredible value for money.
