Callum Bruce is leaving Waikato to take up a two-year rugby contract in Japan.
The 26 year-old midfield back will leave this weekend to play rugby in Japan for the Cannon club.
Bruce, formerly from Otago and the Highlanders, played 26 games for the Mooloos, with his last game being as captain of Waikato in the team's last game of the 2009 season. He also played 35 games for the Chiefs.
Waikato coach Chris Gibbes says: "Brucey has been a solid campaigner for Waikato over the past two years. His leadership and professionalism was second to none."
"He filled an important role for Waikato at the end of last year, and was a big influence on turning our season around. He'll be a loss for Waikato Rugby, but we wish him all the best for his new career in Japan."
"Midfield is certainly an area of interest with the naming of our pre-season Waikato ITM Cup Squad, and options will be worked through within the coming six weeks."
Bruce was a former New Zealand Maori and Junior All Blacks representative.
