Hohneck's Waikato Move Paid Off

Zak Hohneck is in no doubt he made the right move across the Kaimais at the beginning of last year.

The young open-side flanker joined Waikato on completing his diesel mechanic's apprenticeship in Rotorua last year, leaving behind a logjam of opensiders at Bay of Plenty.

Hohneck, 21, managed nine appearances for Waikato last year including two starts after recovering from injury, and has made quite an impact in club rugby for Otorohanga.

But this year he has thrived on the rotation necessary in the condensed ITM Cup competition and learning from a No7 master in veteran Marty Holah.
