Sam debuted for Waikato in 2006 in a game against Taranaki. Sam was a part of the undefeated New Zealand Secondary Schools team in 2004, where he scored 30 points. Sam has also played for the Bay of Plenty B in 2005 and the Waikato B in 2007.
